ReplyDeleteWe don't have a good quality raw version. Right now, we're just concentrating on getting the subs from a terrible version, then putting it on a good raw when it comes out.

DeleteHe always puts them; all the time. So, I have no idea why would he change that formula. Hopefully, he will not. It's true, Honorifics are really important in Detective Conan, and they make the translation more authentic and genuine, which lessens some words, scenes, and moments to be lost in translation. Also, sometimes they serve as clues or funny moments. I remember that quite vividly in the seventh movie, when Conan called Heiji by his first name, and Kazuha got surprised and upset, and told him, you should call him: Heiji-Niichan, and not Hattori. If that was not translated as it is literally with the honorifcs , then we would never have gotten and understood that moment at all. So yes... Please, Hubuki&Co, never ever change your ways of putting Honorifcs.
DeletePersonally i cant stand honorifics in subbed anime because If the job of a translator is to translate, why leave them in there? I think anime is the only niche where leaving them in is for some reason acceptable... Ive yet to see an Indian, Chinese, Korean, or anything movie translated honorifics intact.
DeleteIt seems like a cheap and lazy way of translation. Unless that honorific is dead important to the case (which isnt that often if at all in this show) it doesnt need to be there. Ran ne-chan can just be translated Ran (addressing by first name is casual in English) or "Big sis, Ran" Mouri San can just be Mr. More. Edogawa Kun once can easily be translated as 'Little Edogawa" or as a replacement "[Our] young detective" as a direct contrast to "tantei-san or Mr. Detective"
i think i know the reason too. people dont understand that you dont have to make things translate verbatum. if you can replace something then by all means do it. it's common translator practice, just keep it as accurate as possible to the scene so something like "THAT GUY!!!! EVEN AT A TIME LIKE THIS?" (my god how often do i see that translation?) can just be "Not him. Why now?"
As for the hatoi moment you do know in english last names are formal to begin with. leaving out that little nii-chan thing would change nothing as using a first name basis is more informal. a different translation could easily be "Hattori sounds too Formal for a kid. Call him your big bro Heji" the face would do the rest.

ReplyDeletePeople are stop fansubbing them because a Legal Streaming Community known as Crunchyroll has got the License to Sub and Stream it on their site. ML actually gave CR's Episode 754 their stamp of approval saying the subs were pretty good. ML also said they'll be doing the episodes that CR doesn't air, so mainly 752 and 753 and any backlog that ML has will be done. Episodes 754 on up, if you wish to download the anime, you'll have to go to HorribleSubs to download it or just watch it off of Crunchyroll.
